- I saw this in the evening on the same day as CARDENIO, and it was such a relief! This gorgeous production simply washed away the terrible that was CARDENIO, and it restored my pride in Brooklyn College. I took a couple of pages of notes on CARDENIO, but I didn't take one single note for PRINCIPALITY. It simply caught me up and swept me away on a journey, as I always hope a play will do.
- Again, I'm catching up on blogs, and I don't have the program in front of me. I don't know the names of a few of the actors, but the piece itself was generally very strong. All three actors had the challenging task of playing multiple characters in different time periods, and some were more successful than others. The young woman, for instance, was unfortunately flat and unsympathetic in her first incarnation, but I think she reprieved her performance with the southern belle character in the last act. The young man with the accent was very engaging, and JJ Condon was, as usual, adorable.
- Jason Rost is an emerging talent, and his hand was very deliberate on this production. It was clean, controlled, and precise. I look forward to seeing where he goes next.
- I have to say, though, that the "gorgeousness" that defines this production really belongs to the designers. The lighting and the costumes were excellent, but most notably, Brian Kafel's set was completely beautiful, and was certainly the primary element that transported me on this simple, yet expansive multiple generation story of inter-connected lives.
