- Made me really want a mango smoothie.
- Truly excellent set and light design by Rachel Hauck and Japhy Weideman, respectively. Major moments: when set of the house lifts up to reveal the walking labyrinth; the nighttime lighting for an entire scene with only practicals.
- Also Leah Gelpe's sound design deserves a major shoutout. The iguanas on the roof? Very cool.
- This is the summer of 11 o'clock number monologues for teen girls. Sarah Steele blows it away, much like Eboni Booth did in 'Motel Cherry' (see my earlier post).
- Loses a Syringe for 2 reasons: 1) Zeljko Ivanek's odd vocal choice which I found annoying, distracting, and inappropriately cartoonish and 2) there were a few moments when I was able to feel that these 2 actors repeat this performance every night. Premeditation is a visible thing.
- Overall, even the cuntiness of the Lincoln Center ladies in the audience (one told me I was walking too slowly on her way to the restroom - I know there was no intermission, but bitch, please) did not ruin this surprisingly rich new play by Greg Pierce, smartly directed by Anne Kauffman (for one thing, choreographing a walking labyrinth can't be easy).
