- 'A Bright Room Called Day' The Musical! starring Madonna, Britney Spears, and Dan Fishback! Oh, I mean, Cole Escola.
- Gives new meaning to the term "bibliophile."
- Brilliant use of double casting/quick changes. At one moment, the doubling morphs in front of the audience during a song: an incredible crossfade by Lisa Clair from baby Bitzel to Britney baby.
- Everyone knows my thing with doubles. Double casting is one thing, but two versions of the same character sharing stage space? I love it! Two Gittels singing together is a total win and a beautiful song in its own right.
- Smartest lyrics ever. "When you're a couple, you're just a couple of losers" is just one gem.
- I've been talking this summer about the 11 o'clock number monologues for teen girls, but this show has an actual 11 o'clock number, and this puppy's for Mama, played by Molly Pope. Holy moly, or should I say Holy Molly!
- The play with an abstract version of a celebrity is really hip right now. Heck, even I did it in 'City Mice' where Feminist Ryan Gosling plays a leading role. But Mr. Fishback completely lands this gimmick. He lands it so hard. I wanted more, but I am also sure that the play actually had the perfect balance of Madonna and Britney.
- I know Cole Escola is, like, the famous one, but he had much more of a supporting role than any of the women in the play (which I know Dan Fishback is very intentional about). So, I'm a little curious about why Cole Escola's face is all over every piece of publicity for this show because the show is really that good (and is getting SO much buzz) that it doesn't need the celebrity tie-in. Although, I'm sure it doesn't hurt.
- Older Gittel is amazing. I think she should be on the posters. Next to Madonna.
